We set off with the mission of becoming Britain's first Carbon Negative
coffee company. But in order to get there we had to evaluate, analyse and tailor every step of the coffee journey. And now that we've finally done it, we would like to share with you how we got here.
Our commitment doesn't stop at just "being Carbon Negative". We strive to give back to the communities and to ensure that projects are being undertaken to improve social stability, livelihoods and wildlife protection to name a few. Sourcing coffee certified by the Rainforest Alliance or the Fairtrade Foundation ensures that we're contributing our little grain of sand towards making the world a better place.
EcoRoast uses spent coffee grounds as fuel to roast new batches of delicious coffee. We call this "Circular Economy Coffee", a zero waste solution that enables you to enjoy your coffee knowing that waste hasn't been produced, but actually reduced.
Accounting for around 4% of the coffee supply chain’s total carbon footprint, packaging is often overlooked, and in an era of online shopping dominance we think this is an area to focus on and have an impact.
Some of the steps we've taken so far include switching our mailing bags for a sugar cane based carbon neutral alternative, switch to recycled cardboard and reduce overall packaging and clutter in your order.
A TREE FOR LIFE
We really want to knock it out of the park, and for the bits that we haven't improved yet or the inevitable carbon being produced by shipping we've decided to partner with different organisations to plant trees in locations and communities that need it the most.
It is calculated that a single cup of coffee produces 59g of CO2 from crop to cup, it's also known that a single tree captures around 22 kilograms of CO2 per year.
That means a single tree can revert the emissions of drinking 372 cups of coffee every single year.
